He is one of the 9 heroes who form the Fellowship of the Ring. Aragorn is also
known by the name Strider. The three panels were carved to depict events in Aragorn’s
life. One panel shows him disguised as a woodsman called Strider partaking of an ale in
the inn called Prancing Pony where he first met Frodo the Hobbit. Another panel shows the
outside of the main entrance to Helms Deep, where Aragorn helped to defend the fort from
Saruman’s evil forces. The final panel shows Aragorn as King Elessar sitting on his
throne after the “War of the Rings” ended.
On the stem of the goblet are three figure panels depicting Gandalf the Grey, Legolas the
Prince of the Silvan Elves and Gimli the Dwarf, Lord of Aglarond. They are three other
members of the Fellowship of the Ring. The goblet is also embellished with three pieces of
onyx.
