Goblet, Hobbit

18.5 cm H/ Approx. 7.5” H
The scenes on this goblet are the Golden Eagle, the Fire
Drake, the City Castle of Tirion and a hobbit hole or house. These scenes are the
sculptor’s interpretations of incidents that occur in the books. Hobbits are halfling
people, said to be related to humans. They are smaller than dwarves and have long fingers
and large hands. They have long wavy brown hair and unclad hairy feet.
A unique feature of this goblet is the two small handles on the side. There are also
inscriptions on the cup and at the bottom of the goblet. The inscriptions are actually
Anglo/Saxon runes which Tolkien used in the book. The inscription near the rim of the cup
is written in runes and it says “this is a sacred goblet used by Hobbits and their
kin the hobbits are all drunks so lets drink to them all.” |
