The wisest of the Five Wizards, Gandalf the Grey was the prime mover in the War
against Sauron and the bearer of the Ring of Fire. He fell in combat with the Balrog on
the Bridge of Khazad Dum, but returned as Gandalf the White to complete his labours before
passing into the West forever.
The most renowned of the Istari Wizards, Gandalf the Grey initiated the Quest of the Ring
and was himself a keeper of the Ring of Fire. By his wisdom he guided the free peoples of
Middle Earth to victory over the dark Lord Sauron.
