An Evil spirit in the form of a monstrous spider, Shelob dwelt in Torech Ungol on the borders of the Black Land and spun her webs of darkness. She was severely wounded in combat with the Hobbit Samwise, but her ultimate fate is unknown. Any intruder hoping to enter Mordor via the mountain pass of Cirith Ungol would do well to escape the clutches of Shelob the Great Spider.
